During my business trip, while returning, I had the chance to journey via train on EC 57, which is popularly referred to as EC Wawel. This train route connects Kraków to Berlin and has experienced modifications over time. On certain occasions, it has extended its route within Germany to Hamburg Altona. During the renovation of train lines, it temporarily operated solely between Wrocław and Berlin. At present (2024), it travels from Berlin Hbf to Przemyśl Główny. (Both “Hbf – Hauptbahnhof” and “Główny” denote the Main Train Station).
It is also one of the fastest routes (depending on offers) from Wrocław to Katowice. In my opinion, there are still areas where we can travel faster, but it has improved compared to the past. It’s important to note that within Poland, it is referred to as “IC Wawel“. PKP Intercity combined train names some time ago, and in Poland, we don’t have a separate category called “EC = EuroCity” for international trains. We only have one category, “IC = Intercity“, for long-distance trains.
