Katowice Airport is located in the northern part of the Katowice Metropolis. It also serves as a diversion (backup) airport for Kraków Airport and is often used when weather conditions require aircraft to divert.
The airport is owned by Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze S.A. (GTL), which will mark its 35th anniversary in 2026. The idea behind GTL is rooted in the pre-war Śląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze S.A., which operated the airport in “Katowice-Muchowiec“, then the first “Katowice” airport.
Personally, it’s our first-choice airport when we travel by plane. As mentioned above, Kraków Airport is also located close to our metropolis, so when it isn’t possible to use one, we can use the other. You can see an example of this in our blog post from Kraków Airport.
